It is the eve of vacation.
I am ready
Made the last calls
Cleaned the last clothes.
Nap time. I’m almost ready to drop the book and start drooling.
A buddy calls.
We talk on the phone here n there over a period of months
The phone is a bad thing for us
He lives some distance away,
Not convenient for in person.
It’s a return call and he’s been choppin’ down trees.
He’s good at that.
Chat and drinks ensue.
We laugh, tell nasty stories, talk about the news.
He always asks me what I am drinking ?.
Because he has something in his hands and drinking alone is redundant.
Being a heavy drinker, when I drink, I have lots of booze in the house.
Presents, duty free and happen stance…
A lot of it.
So, sometimes I will describe what I have and
In relation to what my buddy has, it’s a touchdown.
We talk for hours, progressing through our drinks and smokes
Free range and a lot of obscurity, a laugh.
We have very similar senses of humour. We exploit (lore) that.
I talk to no other person on the phone like I talk to this guy.
And as the hour gets late, the connection is cut, if only briefly
And it’s over.
No point calling back
Next, that conversation is over.
It was a good one.
And then !
You’re left sitting in your bed clothes, smashed.
Smoked and drank, almost furiously, for 3 hours and now there you are - all by yourself.
The horror people, the horror…I’ve got to write this down.
Vacation and no cell phone, no office, little thought of work.
-have to remedy that condition, little thought – should be zero!
Nonetheless
Its now 1245 am. I have 4 hours of work and the vacation begins.
23 days.
Point of perspective this is.
Look at what’s available.
How much time do we spend here ?
-this is the end- Jim Morrison
when you get to the end, if you live long enough to see it, what kind of reflection do you see ?
where, have you been, what have you done, what did you do ?
is there anything in residue that leaves a memory of your time here ?
we all want to be famous. and rich.
A night out of town, a flight to the south
Need warmer conditions or I will have pneumonia before I fly off…predatory bugs
They wait for the down time and ZOT!, sneezing, dripping and barfing, uhyuh.
Liquids and chicken soup is not a vacation.
Much less Montezuma’s
The ticket is one way, carry on…you cannot reschedule now…thanks, um yeah, ah-choo -
uhyuh. (chinese word for exasperation).
Home for the ROCKSHOW, then back out of town.
Elusive destinations, who wants to know ?
‘Down in Louisiana, where the alligator grows so mean,
Lived a little girl, who I swear to the World, made the alligators look tame,
Polk salad Annie.’ – Elvis Presley
- who wudda thot that, at that moment…bourbon !
‘its called polk! … Salad!.’ Swivel hips, strike pose. Elvis – the man had a voice.
Its going to be sunny and warm tomorrow, hot, even.
The liars have been promising for 5 days.
Bets ?
A sure thing?…and I’m getting outta here, fed up, had enuf ! It is 5 degrees and its mid May.
WTF…? Global Warming. There is still 8 feet on the ground.
Feet.
Snow in the mountains, they have had fresh snow. Lately!
‘blue skies, I see nothing but, blue skies.’
I told you, the horror.
I did.
All right, we are going off now, far and wide, check out the scene.
The future seems really bright.
I’m wearing shades, not rose coloured glasses.
