Hmm
The news.
The news in pictures.
Pictures are pretty clear.
They say a lot.
Video, shows more.
Do either tell it all ?

Welcome to Vancouver International Airport.
Home of intensive good behaviour.
Before you walk in,
you are being watched.
-we all know it-
-but are you ?-
Humans from all over the World.
Most Languages can be heard,
at Vancouver 'International' Airport.
TouchDown ! You're here !
Nobody is here to meet you,
you do not speak our language,
nobody else seems to either.
- hard to believe -

All kinds of Security !
-3 different levels, at least-
No help whatsoever.
So it Seems...

A man, being filmed with a hand held Camera.
International Airport Arrivals, one more door and your free to go.
Seems to be building a barricade.
In front of the last door out,
his movements keep the doors opening and closing
A lady tries to talk to him.
He does not understand.
'seems foreign'
Why is he building a barricade with rolling chairs ?
-to keep himself in ?-
He looks pretty harmless.
After a while,
He starts to take the barricade down.
Moving the chairs back to where he found them.
-nobody else can be seen in the whole glassed in area with him-
-international arrivals-
Now he looks confused.
Like an exotic cat tamer,
He holds a wooden stool.
He decides to throw it,
Against a glass wall.
-Well, that did it.-
Here comes 'Security'
With 'radios' in their ears.
They don't try to talk to him...
Just keep him where he is.
The man begins to look a little panicked.
Fear.
Still, nobody will try to communicate with him.
The man shouts in his language.
Alone on the sea, as it were.
'Real' security enforcement marches into the building.
Intimidation and agression, all business.
-this is an airport and here is a strange man.
He has built a barricade at the exit door to International Arrivals, in a 'security' zone after passing zee inspecktor zone,
no one has tried to walk out the barricaded door since filming began...-
Acknowledgement back and forth
The man is surrounded by our 'Real' Security Force.
True to 'Hollywood', without further ado,
The man is taken down.
-takes four 'security' to hold him down,
even after they 'zapped' him.-
The man's painful moans subside.
A videotape ends.
The man, died.

Emotion.
Pictures.
Reality?
-Frightening-
Resigned.

I don't watch TV.
I looked for this video
Watched it.
-rest well assured that we will never see the airport film(s)-

All systems failed a test, leaving fatal consequences
and way too many embarrassing questions in it's wake.
Will anybody involved, or those who should have been,
Stand-up and take some responsibility for what happened ?

There will be 'inquiries'
All bent out of shape.

The dead man's Mother, has become a 'trainwreck'.
I'm sure she will find all the help she may want.

And then some.
Its going to cost all of us another fortune.

-we, by eventually paying for the 'mishap', condone it.-

-will the real problems be looked at ? -

Intimidation, miscommunication, misunderstanding,
arrogance, incompentence and embarrassment.
-remember APEC pepper spray ? Nothing has changed-
Security at all levels,

-except, it seems, Customs-
Outwitted by a Foreign language.
An 'Olympic Host' city's International Airport.
hmm Security.

'security fees':
-thanks George-
imposed on all travellers by
the airport Authority,
Several levels of Government,
and all of the Airlines.
-some humongous dollar amount-
Look what we got !

Fire Them All !

Start Again, this model does not work.

well ?

Labels:

Another day in the neighbourhood and a blank screen
Fill that screen with words, put it out there for consumption.
Time goes bye and things need a new coat of paint
The strata decided the building needed a new look
after 16 years, yeah, pink is old.
So, lets go with brown and tan.
good solid colours that will last.
Fumes and that new carpet smell.
somebody is paying for it.
who am I to argue ?
Lived here for a long time.
When I moved in the neighbourhood was suspect.
Hookers, transvestites, gay bath houses...a little rough.
Now, its all concrete and dog walkers - with their plastic bags...
The 'in' place in the city.
density has increased and traffic is a zoo.
I like it tho. The noise is soothing.
When it goes quiet, feels like something is wrong.
A lot of people live on this little penninsula,
Boxes in the sky. And at a huge price.
The burbs are the burbs,
Downtown is where it all spins
Great food, high prices, no parking.
What more could you ask for ?
A Voyeurs paradise, with a good set of binoculars
lots of the box dwellers are not shy.
Some even hope to be spied upon.
And then there are those who have no concept -
'that new building is going to block my view'
'we must stop it' Give your head a shake !
Too bad, so sad - move. Its the city, it grows
Deal with it or get out. Progress has never waited.
It is getting to the point where its almost finished
no more vacant space to put up new condos
March the towers to the east !
north, south and west are water...
Move skid row, it's only been there forever.
We need More Condos !
More concrete, more planned urban living !
If there were ever a serious disaster
- the horror -
City center would starve first,
Anarchy and violence starts amongst the masses.
Hope I am not at home...
Vacation, somewhere else.
If I am home...new adventure !

Ramble on

Many have I loved
and Many times been bitten

Many times I’ve gazed along the open road

Many times I’ve lied
and many times I’ve listened

Many times I’ve wondered
How much there is to know?

Many dreams come true
And some have silver linings
I live for my dreams
And a pocket full of gold

Jimmy Page / Robert Plant
Over the Hills and Far Away

A song for the ages
And yet is already so old.

Do you think that, over time, we really appreciate what has been ?
We would not have been here without our past.
Something to think about, the past…
I like to say ‘we’ a lot.
Whether I am speaking of many, or myself.
I think it’s the group feeling, knowing that whatever I get up to, there is worse.
There must be an instinctive cohesion amongst humans
True freedom comes with understanding that common instinct.
We have all felt the emotions caused by instinct.
It can be scary. Epiphany. A virgin awakened.
Literature Written on reeds, papyrus, cave walls, pyramids in code.
Somebody had something to say and wanted it to last.
Communications.
Never before have we been able to just, pick up the phone.
Talk to anyone, anywhere, on the planet. Even off of it.
Sometimes you still need a dime.
Ever played in the library or
Tried to read all those authors they taught you about in school, the classics?
A land of detail and discovery,

places and words put into context, history rings clear.
The old poets, philosophers and philanderers
Has anything really moved forward except with respect to visual and audio occupation?
A lot of books today are written with the full intention of becoming a screenplay
Where goes imagination when the answer is not always,’ I liked the book better’.
Case in point – Sideways. The day I finished reading the book, the movie opened in theatres in Vancouver.
Had no idea. Never saw the movie.
Most have never read the book.

Trust me, the book is better.
Made millions at the box office.

And then
An impressive book never written for the big screen,
and could only be epic in scope if ever produced for it,
The Lord of the Rings.

Took forever to watch, just like it took to read
The book had already made millions. Box Office tidal wave.
Hype was rampant just waiting for it.
Imagination and fascination has only improved the book.
Total escape.

… Ramble on.

rememberance day

the one holiday all year that should have the most reverence.
a day when people around the world stopped fighting.
the most human day known to man
one that celebrates the ultimate challenge
kill or be killed.
fighting for the rights of freedom
fighting for something believed in
fighting, human against human
death

our fathers thought at the time the fighting would produce results
what have they wrought ? what did they accomplish ?
we still fight and kill.
we have learned that some toys need not be thrown to attain results
we can blow oursleves up
leaving the planet unfit for roaches.

the struggle for the survial of human freedom will never end
there will always be thise who want to control the masses.
they have done a pretty good job of it with media and nonsense.
hard questions do not get asked and those that do never get debate
whip up a catastrophe, divert glaring attention
mystery and subversion.
fewer die in this game.

assasination created the first world war
a spark that ignited a blowtorch
mustard gas and mortar shells, fighting in the trenches
waves of young men, charging the other side
caught up in barbed wire and strewn bloody on the ground
smoke and drifting scents of death
a battle like never before seen

the second war was sarted by a mad genius
maddder than the hatter, but capable beyond question
now there were planes, ships and missiles
gas ovens, machine guns and carte blanche murder
to question what would have happened had he won is not nice at high tea
a quest for true freedom crushed the oppressor

several other wars have gone on since those times
more men and women, fighting for our rights
invisible planes become eyes in the sky
video enhanced, still require front lines
and many still die
fighting an enemy with views not like yours
wanting recognition of their different lifestyle

we will never all get along

a day to remember those who face off in war
I may not agree, but wont argue now
the death of a soldier cannot be dismissed
respect and honour for their unswerving patriotism to freedom and life
they gave theirs up so that I can type what I like

lest we ever forget

It's Saturday Night !

Another happy weekend is upon us and I am working like crazy ~
Not that this is a bad thing, I like what I do and I prefer to have a lot to do as opposed to not having enough to do.
Idle hands and all that.

The rains have returned to the Left Coast and the cold is settling in until April.
Grey is not my favourite colour, but it is prevelant in the skies from now til then. Hopefully it will dicourage further migration to this city on the sea. Just try to rent an apartment for less than 2 grand or buy something for less that 300 - it's madness.

Whatelse is new ? Hmmm.
It appears the US economy is going into the dumper, faster than you can say "George ?, What have you done now ?".
This is good for my shopping dollars in America, which even at the height of the Canadian dollar being worth half a US Buck went a very long way - gotta love shopping in America - selection, service and cheap ! US ThanksGiving - the day after is the biggest shopping day in America and I will be in the pack shouting 'CHARGE IT !' - I'll pay cash tho. Christmas shopping done in 48 hours - a much better plan than being chucked out of the stores at 505pm on the 24th - been there several times...

Pumpkin night is passed and the smell of gunpowder has dissipated.
Tomorrow is the Smashing Pumpkin Festival - bring your pumpkin and have a smashing good time - new and different, but probably a lot of fun !

A short note, gotta run -

Behave, be good and Be You all !
